I think a lot of doctors are too busy with paperwork and too many patients. They are human so they don’t have time to learn and keep up with the new medicine or don’t take the time to research and help their patients. Plus in certain areas there are not many specialist that deal with TBI ! It needs to change because if you don’t catch TBI within the first year and receive the treatment then you are who you will be.

My wife and family lived through the aftermath of my injuries in glorious living Technicolor. I've said all along that they were the heroes, not me because I was "absent" and I don't remember very much from the first six months. The new me is now 9 years old and very lucky to still have my wife, children and friends with me on this journey. Your husband is a lucky man too and I wish everything for you that you wish for yourselves. Love from another family who understand all your struggles, grief, successes and failures and the benefits of being positive and remaining stubbornly focused on just not giving in. It does get better. ❤

We are dealing this with my Mom’s boyfriend right now. He does have cancer but two hospitals have turned him away calling his problem“psychiatric”. He’s not doing it for drugs but to manipulate my Mom and others around him. He’s done it his whole life. His wife, MIL, mother and other family members have done the same over the years. What do we do??

Hi Dan Im'ma from (MIT) university freshmen. I've encountered a recent incident that has left me in need some advice . I wanted to share that I recently experienced a concussion 3 days ago, and unfortunately, it has occurred again in the same right side. I'm wondering, would a sudden sideways motorbike collision with a cycle at a speed of 30 km/hr., causing a forceful movement of my torso to lurch and my head in relative (lateral flexion) in the same area of the first concussion ,can it potentially cause damage to the previously concussed neurons ? very worried since i am difficulty speaking like finding right words and articulating fluently and even slight difficulty understanding words and its been 1 month no recovery? i initially have no symptoms after the incidence like nausea or dizziness , does it cause any permanent deficits or it is just temporary ? and Does this injury lead to the diminution of a handful of neurons?

Part 1. Once I got rearended at 45. My head hit the driver side window and frame. Everything went white. Not shortly after I felt like my eyes were being pulled out of my head and my brain was being sucked down into my spine. My ears were muffled, I was very nauseous. When my vision returned it was dark and everything seemed to have a hazy halo around it. I kept working QC at a medical device factory. I was miserable for two weeks after my doctor told me I HAD to take two weeks off work immediately. He put me on drugs to stop the swelling. My gait was like I was drunk and I would forget everything I was told. I wouldn’t remember anything. This went on for 4 months I had a hard time writing, concentrating, reading. I went to a TBI specialist in Cleveland and she took me out of work for 12 weeks to start rehab. During that time I was doing speech, occupational, and physical therapy full time. At night I would challenge myself with reading books on neurology. I didn’t stop till I started my IONM internship. What was the worst was how I was treated. My parents were the worst. They’d fight with me, they’d “get tried of me using the same old excuses” they couldn’t understand what was “wrong with me”. Couldn’t understand why I kept lashing out. Couldn’t understand “ what stupid games I was playing in rehab” as the found some of the games my therapists and I played. At work they were constantly harassing me about my deficits. Its a cold world for people with TBI’s I fully credit my neuro team with earning my cnim and saving my self worth. I’d be on disability without them

Part 2 Once I got the true care I needed. What helped me immensely was talking to me like an adult but speaking slower. Slower speech and shorter sentences that didn’t confuse or discourage me. I worked with one of the best TBI recovery centers in the midwest. I went from not understanding how to get from my room to the bathroom in a house I lived in for 36 years. I went from having panic attacks in my car because I would suddenly forget how to drive or where I was going. To becoming a board certified neurophysiologist in two years.

I would get furious and rage. Looking back, I was confused and very scared that I was never going to get better. I was mad at the accident. I was frustrated with my family. I was pissed my life and independence was slowly being taken away from me. It was so hard.

I had a tbi and there was ZERO HELP…very hard to find a neurologist that will help a concussed car accident victim…OR if a neurologist does see you, they mess with your head and tell you nothing is wrong even though you clearly have neurofatigue, memory issues, and balance problems…I am alone in this world both my parents have passed and this TBI has been the absolute worst experience…I’m also a nurse. When I went to the ER, that doctor was a (we’ll call him a jerk but i could definitely think of stronger words) he didn’t believe anything was wrong with me. I was stopped at a red light and a car at a high rate of speed smashed into me. I took all the impact for 3 cars ahead of me. Im so angry when I think of how I was treated and I’m a nurse-/I’m 4 years out, still have memory issues, processing information, reading comprehension…I finally found 2 doctors that are helpful but everyone else was horrible and/or got mad at me --there is no help!

I too have a severe brain injury, but after many years of effort I've discovered an effective protocol that has restored much of my lost function. If you wish to learn about my technique you are welcome to ask. As the son of a Yale trained psychiatrist I can state from experience that doctors are trained to both mis-diagnose and mistreat neural pathologies, and by way of the highly dysfunctional culture of medical professionals are given to engage in hostile and abuse behavior of such extremes as to constitute its own form of reckless endangerment for any TBI survivor. It's late at night now for me; time to apply heat therapy and rest in liue of sleep. It's a tedious method but it has saved my life. So I do hope that this little hint is of interest. wishing you the best, Noel G.

Best of your videos I think (TBI not withstanding). This man is saying what we need- and that THESE supports are not available. Yet. This is real truth. All the other videos about getting help can be useless words. Maybe there are places, like pockets around the country, where help exists. Not rural central FL. No treatment. No rehab. I have wondered if i am lucky to not be injured more severly. I function. But omg. Tbi sucks.
